The school’s motto “Ad Lucem Sapientiae” is a Latin quotation and freely translated means “Upward in the light of knowledge”
Doon Heights Primary School first opened its doors on 21 January 1980.
At that time 125 learners were enrolled and the staff consisted of six teachers.

An opinion poll conducted on 26 November 1991 resulted in a convincing majority of the school’s parents voting in favour of Doon Heights Primary School becoming “An ordinary Public School which determines its own admission policy within the provisions of the current constitution”. Mr Bode retired as Principal at the end of 1991. The school’s enrolment was 231 pupils.
